Tawanda A. Bailey

Tawanda A. Bailey is the chair of the Maryland Commission for Women where she has lent her extraordinary leadership to the Commission’s advocacy on behalf of all women in the state, including its Voices of Maryland Women Listening Tour, Status of Women research project and its Women and COVID 19 research.

In addition to Tawanda’s full time job as a Compliance Officer with the Howard County Department of Fire/Rescue Services, she volunteers on the Commission for Women, where she serves on the Board of Directors of the Frederick County Mental Health Association and is on its Governance Committee.

Tawanda is a volunteer Emergency Medical Technician with the United Steam Fire Engine Company and is a member of its Board, mentoring young women interested in Fire-Rescue careers. Tawanda also serves on the Downtown Frederick Partnership focus group on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. Tawanda received the Frederick County Commission for Women’s “Up and Coming Woman of the Year” in 2020.
